HISTORY
Burns are one of the most
horrific assaults that can be inflicted on the human body. As professional
fire fighters, the IAFF and its 295,000 members understand this
fact better than most. We recognize the tremendous need to assist
the more than 2.5 million people, including fire fighters and emergency
responders, who are burned each year. That is why in 1982, the IAFF
formed the IAFF Burn Foundation, and why the Foundation has been
the driving force behind nearly every burn safety advance in the
fire and emergency services for the last 25 years.
 |
Since its inception, the IAFF Burn Foundation has awarded more than $2.5 million to burn research, making it one of the largest sources for burn research grants. Foundation-funded research has been published in numerous professional medical journals and has greatly contributed to the advancement of treatment and quality of life issues for burn survivors. Research grant proposals are accepted annually and awards are distributed during the American Burn Association Annual Meeting. |
The IAFF Burn Foundation
also provides funding and assistance for adult burn survivor retreats,
educational workshops for burn camp directors and counselors, burn
prevention and education materials and direct financial assistance
to regional burn camps and other related events.
The IAFF Burn Foundation is a 501(c) 3 tax-exempt,
non-profit organization affiliated with the IAFF. The Foundation
is funded solely through donations received from concerned citizens,
organizations and businesses.
