Foundation is one of the largest nongovernmental source
of burn research grants and has awarded over $2 million
in burn research grants since 1982.

Burn Research Grant Awards at 2007 American Burn Association Annual
Meeting
The IAFF Burn Foundation
participated in the 39th Annual American Burn Association Meeting
in San Diego , California March 19-23, 2007. Fire fighters from
IAFF local affiliates throughout North America , along with approximately
1,200 burn care professionals, attended the week-long conference
designed to educate burn care nurses, physicians, therapists and
fire fighters on advances in burn treatment. More

Grant Application Process
The IAFF Burn Foundation Research Grant Program continues to lead
to new knowledge and innovative approaches to the prevention and
treatment of the physical and psychological problems that impair
the quality of life for a burn patient. Each year, hundreds of
grant applications are submitted to the IAFF Burn Foundation.
Areas of IAFF-funded
research:
1) Quality
of Life
This area of research is the most common, focusing on issues such
as pain management, nutrition, and physical and psychological
rehabilitation.
2)
Burn Prevention
Research in this area is especially important in shaping prevention
programs.
3) Basic
Science
Research grants funded in this category surround nutrition, wound
healing and scar formation.
Foundation-funded research
has been published in numerous professional medical journals and
has resulted in many important advances in burn care treatment
and improved quality of life issues for burn survivors. View

Board of Medical Advisors
The IAFF Burn Foundation's
Board of Medical Advisors, comprised
of five internationally recognized physicians specializing in
burns, assists the Foundation in the grant review process.
